The Story

Trying to make a million dollars out of a paper cup.
I think we’ve all been there at one time or another.
Nothing is going right, everything is falling apart.
You want to curl up into a ball and cry...
But that’s not an option.
A BLACK WOMANS STRUGGLE
You have to do something, anything, everything - just make it work.
And that’s what I did.
That’s what this is.
This is me making it work.
Needing to come up with a large amount of money in a short period of time,
or being forced to move in the middle of winter when it’s freezing,
I don’t have the money and being homeless is a real possibility.
So I chose to fight.
This is me fighting for my
my children’s safety and stability.
This is me fighting for my peace of mind.
I went to my people.
To my village.
To the things we have in common.
The way we love each other with our words.
The way we move through time and space,
The way we exist.
I reached back to my ancestors.
I reached out to my people.
I reached forward to my legacy.
I am black.
